Obituary:
Fred E. Barber 90, of Mount Pleasant (Hammondville) died Tuesday July 27, 2010 in Harmon House, Mount Pleasant. He was born April 10, 1920 in Trauger a son of the late Souville Barber Stevens. Fred was a graduate of the former Hurst High School. He was a retired carpenter for U.S. Steel. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II. Fred was a member of the Mount Pleasant VFW and American Legion and a member of the Bullskin Twp. Volunteer Fire Department and the Pleasant Valley Grange and former member of the Connellsville Band Boosters. He also was a member of St. John's Union Church in Mt. Pleasant Twp. Fred is survived by four children, John Barber at home, Eugene Barber and his wife Hiroko of Grass Valley, Calif., Jane Tate and her husband Larry of Mount Pleasant and Janet McElfresh and her husband Rich of Murfreesboro, N.C.; five grandchildren, Denny Tate and his wife Diana, Larry Joe Tate, Adam Tate, Matthew McElfresh and his fiance Dawn and Julia Barber; two great grandchildren, Hunter and Hannah Tate and one brother, Vernon Stevens and his wife Mary of Ravenna, Ohio. In addition to his mother he was predeceased by his wife Esther J. Boyer Barber in 2004 and one brother, Marshall Stevens. Friends will be received from 7-9 P.M. Wednesday and 2-4, 7-9 P.M. Thursday in the Brooks Funeral Home, Inc., 406 E. Washington St., Mount Pleasant where services will be held on Friday at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Bob Kruel officiating. Interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville. Military Rites will be conducted at the cemetery by the Mount Pleasant American Legion and VFW Honor Guard.
